This comprehensive course aims to help you improve your reflections, analyses, and thinking process and therefore your decisions through the practical identification and mitigation of biases.
This course was designed with a specific objective in mind. How can we improve at best our thought process and analysis to obtain the best possible result, thus the best possible decisions?
Grounded in scientific knowledge and experience notably from the intelligence community, this course covers a large range of biases, and not only a couple of haphazardly chosen biases.
The course covers two fundamental biases related to metacognitive and psychological needs, 17 cognitive biases, as well as the myriad of emotionally induced and normative biases.
The course in a few words
Mitigating biases is focused on improving your thinking process and thus helping you to take, at the end, better decisions and improving how you interact with and relate to others.
This course is a serious and comprehensive course on the mitigation of biases. It was designed with a specific objective in mind. How can we best improve our thinking process and analysis to obtain the best possible results, thus, also, the best possible decisions?
We have drawn on the experience, knowledge, and understanding gathered by the professions most concerned and most demanding in terms of analysis and reflection: the scientific community and the intelligence community.
Indeed, if intelligence analysts produce bad analyses because of biases, then consequences may be dire. Thus, the intelligence community has developed a large unclassified body of knowledge on biases and how to mitigate them.
Similarly, the scientific community has a duty to generate an understanding that is as objective and as applicable as possible. As a result, it developed and even spearheaded ways to overcome biases.
As a result, the programme, grounded in these efforts, is a comprehensive course to mitigate biases.
We selected those major biaises that could impair thought process and to find the best ways to mitigate these biases. We thus cover a large range of biases, and not only a couple of haphazardly chosen biases.
This course will help you first to identify and mitigate a major meta-cognitive bias and a key bias stemming from psychological need. Then it will look in detail at seventeen cognitive biases, and explain how to find them and how to mitigate them. With the following units, this course will address other types of biases, which are rarely considered. Namely, you will learn about emotion-induced biased then normative biases.
The course will guide you through understanding biases and their impacts. It will help you handling them practically.
This course is delivered through eight units in three modules.
For the exercises of each unit, you will also be able to download an action guide and exercise book, which will become your personal invaluable book for recording not only your progress but also all those biases that are specific to your life. You will then use your “Mitigating biases book” throughout time for reference.
Including many exercises, the course is designed and taught for anyone involved in thinking. It can be taken by all professionals, from general managers to senior managers and officers, and analysts, to independent consultants and students. The course will help them overcome the many challenges they face and develop further a sound thinking process and excellent interpersonal skills (see Teaching and Training Quality below).

Teaching and Training Quality
This course is designed to benefit from the online learning environment while remaining grounded in proper classical high-level teaching academic credentials, executive course training, as well as practical experience, including in analysis of international relations issues (check the website for many various examples of analyses).
Trainer
Our training is designed and developed by Dr Lavoix, who has a PhD in International Politics (Lond SOAS), a MSc in International Politics of Asia (distinction – Lond SOAS) as well as a Master in Finance (ISC Paris – Valedictorian). Furthermore she has specialised in strategic foresight and early warning over the last 16 years. She is also an experienced trainer and lecturer (bio).
The programmes are thus grounded in scientific and academic knowledge and understanding, as well as practical experience of international relations, political and geopolitical analysis and strategic foresight and early warning analysis and processes.
Programme Content – The Course Syllabus
Module 1 – The Mind-Forged Manacles
The first module explains what are biases and where they impact us.
Module 2 – The main biases we must face
The second module and its six units constitute the core of the course and presents the most important biases impacting us all. Each of these units focuses on a type of biases and detail them: we thus move from meta-cognition and psychological-need biases to three major types of cognitive biases, to two main types of emotion-induced biases and, finally, to normative biases.
Module 3 – Further strategies to mitigate biases
The last module and unit presents supplementary ideas and strategies to mitigate biases.
Learning Experience and FAQ
Learning Experience
Your learning journey
How much time should I plan to spend on the course each week?
The programme should take approximately 2 to 3 hours per session, with 3 sessions in one week, over two weeks. It was planned in such a way participants could complete the programme in the evening, after their work or over two weekends. You should also however consider that here you are acquiring a thinking habit, so you should think about what you learned and apply it constantly.
For one session, you can expect to spend 30 min to 1 hour watching videos, 1-2 hours practicing and thinking about what you learned through exercices, quizzes and reflections, 1-2 hours in reading. You should permanently seek to apply the learning content in your everyday work and life.
What is the learning pace during the course?
This course is delivered through 8 units in 3 modules. The course is planned to take 6 sessions to complete over two weeks.
The programme is designed to provide enough flexibility within each week for the participants to study at their own pace.
Can I learn ahead of the planned schedule?
The course is designed to allow you to truly assimilate how to identify and mitigate biases.
You can decide to study more and to be ahead of time, but this should not be made at the expenses of reading and practice.
You are embarking upon a life-long journey to mitigate biases. Expect to have to go back frequently to your lectures and notes to continue identifying and mitigating biases.
Study at your own pace
Do I need to be online at specific times during the course?
The programme is fully online and consists of asynchronous learning (through videos, tests, exercises, etc). You can of course download and keep the exercise book and action guide book.
Can I continue to access the programme content even after the end of the 2 weeks?
You can benefit from access to all the online resources of the course for up to 3 months after the start of the programme. You can go back to each unit and use it fully as many times as you want and need.
Requirements to successfully complete the programme?
Requirements
This course is delivered through 8 units in 3 modules, including 7 graded tests. The course is planned to take 2 weeks to complete. This means that you must take the time to do most of the readings and to complete the exercises and quizzes. Throughout the two weeks planned, you should have enough time to do that peacefully.
To successfully complete the online programme and earn certification, you are required to meet all of the following criteria:
- Complete all in-platform learning activities
- Earn a minimum of 50% to all tests.
Certification
What do I receive upon the successful completion of the online programme?
Upon successful completion of the course combined with satisfactory grades, participants are awarded with an official Certificate of Completion from the Red Team Analysis Society, which they can also showcase on their LinkedIn profile.
